To coincide with Funkyvenues.com first birthday, the award-winning online venue and event service finder launched the Funkymarque at an exclusive event.

In a relaxed and informal ceremonial at Soho's exclusive members' bar The Player, the Funkymarque was awarded to a host of venues and suppliers including 30 St Mary Axe "The Gherkin", the Roundhouse and RSA House.

The Funkymarque will now give participating venues an industry and consumer recognised mark of certification.

Funky Venues Managing Director, Deirdre McGinnis, said: "The Funky Venues' first anniversary is not just a celebration of defining, inspirational and, dare I say, funky space but it's also been an opportunity to bring together the people who have realised, designed and managed these amazing 'space for hire' opportunities for the public.

"The Funkymarque will grow with our brand to become an unique authentication that rubberstamps a venue or supplier's funky status to become as instantly recognisable as the Michelin Star for discerning diners.

"We look forward to another successful year, which will see the launch of Funky Paris in early 2008 and other worldwide destinations to follow".

Collecting their Funkymarque awards on the night, recipients included the award-winning Roundhouse, which reopened in 2006, sophisticated members' club The Hospital and recent newcomers 30 St Mary Axe, otherwise affectionately known as The Gherkin and now featuring London's highest bar for hire.
