Research explores views on Christmas parties

A Fresh Tracks product story
Edited by the Marketingweek Marketplace editorial team Dec 18, 2007

Fresh Tracks has conducted a poll that has revealed some interesting statistics on how individuals feel about the traditional office Christmas Party.

When asked 'How do you feel about your Christmas Party?', just 46 per cent of individuals responded that they were 'excited and looking forward to it', but a whopping 53 per cent of people felt 'indifferent' or that it was a case of 'grin and bear it'.

It appears that the Christmas party has become a little predictable with 38 per cent of people commenting that their party 'is the same thing every year'.

Not great results considering that significant investment in terms of time and money is spent on such events.

Unfortunately this may be down to the fact that individuals feel that they are not being listened to and that they don't have a say; in fact, 58 per cent of people said that 'their employer does not ask for ideas from staff' prior to arranging their Christmas party.

In our opinion, to see increased benefits in the workplace listen to your staff and colleagues, be bold - try an alternative Christmas event; you may be pleasantly surprised with the results.

Here are the top 5 alternative Christmas events from our poll: Wine/Champagne tasting - entertaining and mildly competitive wine-based challenges; Cooking up a Storm - participants design and prepare a gourmet three-course meal; The Chocolate Challenge Party - creating an original branded box of chocolates; Christmas Treasure Hunt - solving cryptic clues and photographic challenges; The Carbon Positive Challenge - tree planting to offset corporate carbon emissions.
