Athletics championship builds on success

The British University Championships celebrated its debut earlier this year and is now looking to become even bigger and better.

Sheffield recently hosted the four-day Championships, which saw more than 5,000 of the country's most talented athletes compete across 20 sports and 11 venues, making it a bigger multi-event than the Winter Olympics and more is yet to come with Yorkshire Forward, Yorkshire South and Sheffield City Council all committed for at least the next two years.

Nike expressed support for the event in 2008 by becoming the official sportswear supplier and it will work with the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) to identify new sporting talent to help promote the brand.

Already the biggest annual multi-sport event in the UK, the Championships is looking to grow with the help of a title partner.

Marc Hope, Fast Track's Director of Rights Marketing, believes BUC is one of the premier sponsorship opportunities in the UK.

University sport has a history of producing world-class performers with Lord Coe, Paula Radcliffe, Matthew Pinsent and Victoria Pendleton just a few of the names to have used University as a stepping stone to their future international honours.

The ages of the BUC competitors make them serious contenders for London 2012 and Glasgow 2014 and the Championships therefore provide the perfect platform for a partner to support the development of Britain's future sporting heroes.
