The organisers of the FINA World Swimming Championships have announced their first commercial partner with the Manchester Evening News signing up to support the event.
With organisers also on the verge of announcing another four deals, the countdown to the Championships next April is now in full swing For the first time ever in Great Britain swimming will move on to a spectacular stage in Manchester's fantastic MEN arena and with music, lights, water, and plenty of action from the world's best swimmers before they head to the Beijing Olympics, this news means the Manchester Evening News Newspaper won't miss a second

Elaine Darbyshire, corporate communications director for the Manchester Evening News, said: "As the best source of sporting information for the region, the Manchester Evening News is delighted to be the first commercial partner for the 9th FINA World Swimming Championships.
"Manchester is fast becoming the UK capital of world class sporting events and we are immensely proud that this, the first championship of its kind to be held in the UK, is being held in the Manchester Evening News Arena.
"This means that the MEN will be closely associated with championship and will be able to report on all the action as it happens so that our readers don't miss a thing".
Marc Hope, director of rights marketing for Fast Track, who are managing all the sponsorship for the event, said: "The MEN is an excellent first sponsor, offering a great PR platform for other partners.
"Our team is looking for just two National Partners and up to seven further National Suppliers to take full advantage of the build-up to this major World Championship in one of the top Olympic sports, on home soil".
The FINA World Championships take place from Wednesday 9 April 2008 to Sunday 13 April 2008, with over 650 athletes from 120 different countries taking part in the five-day event.
With two huge temporary pools being built in the MEN Arena, the event will be Manchester's biggest sporting competition since the Commonwealth Games and will be the first FINA World Swimming Championships of its kind ever to be staged in the UK.
