August hopes these gifts have a ripple effect.
Her philosophy is: give a tote, then others will use totes, others will give totes and the world will eliminate a lot of the bags clogging our landfills and the petroleum used in manufacture.
"It began when my daughter gave me one," she said.
"I loved using it, and then I began to find fun ones to give friends.
"Now I would never go back to using grocery bags".
