industry
EIA Facts 2007 signifies a new wave in the reporting of events industry data and presents a picture of show activity in the UK and Eire in 2006.
Produced by Vivid Interface, and sponsored by EVENTS:review, exhibitions.co.uk, tsnn.co.uk and venues.org.uk, the report features two clear data sets, namely 'audited' and 'all events' (with trade and public sections for each), and includes analysis on attendance, venue/hall space (gross and net), regional performance and show sector trends Attendance findings show that millions of visitors attended trade and public events at qualifying venues (those with more than 2,000 m2 covered space) in 2006

EIA Facts gathered data from ABC, BPA Worldwide, venues and organisers and presents a picture of a buoyant live event marketing sector in the UK and Eire in 2006.
EIA highlights how events complement new media
Of all the media at brand owners' fingertips, it is event marketing that is not suffering ill effects from the digital revolution, writes Events Industry Alliance chief executive Trevor Foley.
Within this venue category, 2,071,663 visitors attended trade events and 4,867,030 attended public events - a total of 6,938,693 event visits at qualifying venues in 2006.
Adding claimed attendance at the major outdoor events, this total rises to 10,706,761.
Where like-for-like data was available, resultant trends conveyed that attendances at 'all trade' and 'all public' events remained broadly static between 2005 and 2006, with each showing year-on-year variances of below 0.5 per cent.

Marketers plan greater role for live events
The latest report by Internet Advertising Bureau and PriceWaterhouseCoopers does not make great reading for the wider advertising industry but the events sector remains buoyant.
The inaugural EIA Facts gathered data from ABC, BPA Worldwide, venues and organisers and presents a buoyant live event marketing sector in the UK and Eire.
EIA Facts 2007 is the most complete census yet of the events industry, developing previous research to deliver more meaningful data for the industry, and also for increasingly interested external audiences, such as clients and media agencies.
EIA Facts replaces the Exhibition Facts report, of which 18 annual editions were previously published by EVA (Exhibition Venues Association).
Following the merger of EVA with AEV (Association of Event Venues; one of EIA' s three owner trade organisations), EIA set about evolving the research into a more comprehensive, user-friendly statistical resource.
In partnership with Vivid Interface, major changes have been made to the presentation of the data.
On this point, in the introduction of the report, Nigel Nathan, EIA Chairman and MD of ECandO Venues, said: "This year has seen a significant move towards an annual analysis on the UK events market - important changes have been made to the way the data is collected and collated.
"It is now the new dawn of the EIA Facts; through discussion and consultation with the EIA research group, the EIA Facts has the objective of reporting accurate data for the industry, and to analyse industry trends.
"It is our intention to improve and extend the range of data collection and reporting to provide as full a reporting document as we can about our industry".
Trevor Foley, EIA Group Chief Executive, said: "I am delighted to be able to deliver the inaugural EIA Facts to the members of AEC, AEO and AEV, and to the industry at large.
"This is the start of new era for this research, designed to provide a comprehensive analysis our market for those working within the industry, and those interested in becoming more involved in events.
"The main message is that the events business is alive and doing very well, especially when you compare it to other marketing media such as advertising and TV.
"This new method of analysis will give us the ammunition next year and thereafter to clearly demonstrate that live event marketing is on the rise, as we in the industry and the more savvy marketers out there, already know".
