Enable Interactive raises awareness with War Child
War Child, a charity that works with children from war-torn countries such as Iraq, teamed up with Enable Interactive to create a website to communicate digitally with 16-24-year-olds.
"By tapping into the social networking trend, War Child Schools can educate and motivate children while being in a safe environment that is familiar to them", commented Matt Connolly, Strategy Director, Enable Interactive.
"War Child has an amazing ability to cut through and communicate with its audience at their own level.
"With the War Child Schools site we'll be using digital to build on that incredible connection".
A key element of the site is that it will be a secure social network, with teaching assets to help introduce, educate and involve children in activism.
The network will be used by teachers during citizenship lessons for 14 - 16 year olds, initially in a small number of schools with roll-out to other schools in the UK across 2008.
Students will be inspired to campaign on a range of issues that they feel passionate about by writing to their MP, taking part in polls and quizzes, organising events and joining or creating online groups.
Children will also be able to use the network out of school to keep in touch with their friends to discuss issues and encourage others to take action.
"This is the third project we have worked on with Enable and believe that they are the best people to help us engage with this young audience", said Will Lord, Online Campaigns Manager, War Child.
"They're incredibly creative and genuinely passionate about War Child does and what it is trying to achieve".
The War Child Schools project will produce a number of challenges for Enable - they will need to build a community that can compete with other social networking sites and bring content to life by creating a site that is fresh and edgy and position War Child as a brand that will engage users.
The project is a great fit for Enable, not only because of the strength of the agency's strategic, creative and technical work, which has led to the agency being voted the UK's No1 digital agency by the readers of Revolution magazine, but also because of experiences Enable has working on sites aimed at children thus bringing to War Child the benefit of their knowledge and passion for education.
