English wine producers need marketing
help
While climate change favours vineyards in the South of England, English wine producers are under-prepared for the marketing challenges that will face them, according to new research
Hampshire marketing services agency ego creative carried out the research, which discovered that vineyards are not only expanding in the South, they are being watched closely by French producers looking at the prospect of unfavourable growing conditions developing in the traditional French grape regions But ego has identified weaknesses in the marketing plans of home producers that, it says, could jeopardise their chances of capitalising on the benefits of climate change
"The French are experienced in exploiting export markets and know how to shift volume," said ego managing director James Mason.
"Their supply chains and routes to market are well established".
Ego believes that local producers can succeed and prosper independently in the future with brand development and thinking about planned communications programmes.
"Many producers have little time and most believe that bringing in outside agencies to help them plan will cost too much," added Mason.
"The reverse is usually true; small businesses can usually become more profitable and grow without the growing pains when using experienced agencies to make it easier".
