Decorative paint brand Crown has launched its new look website produced by Manchester digital agency Code Computerlove.

Code was appointed in January 2008 as Crown's digital partner following a three-way pitch The new site features a ground-breaking new 3D visualisation tool that allows the consumer to view five types of photo-realistic room sets in colour schemes of their choice, at the touch of a button

The 3D design feature also allows users to view the room's colour scheme in the daytime or apply a night time effect and pan around to see the colours at different angles.

Tony Foggett, managing director of Code Computerlove, explained: "Colour is 'living' - it takes on different effects, in different rooms at different times of the day, so we've created a device that allows consumers looking for colour inspiration to view how each paint colour and scheme can look in photo-realistic room sets.

"As well as providing exceptionally realistic visualisation, this mechanism responds to consumer's desire for quirky interactive applications on websites.

"Customers won't get bored of playing with it as it has more than 500 different colour schemes created by Crown to implement in each of the five room sets".

Code worked with 3D specialists Real Time to implement the tool, which uses flash animation.

Crown's site is broken down into five core interlinked sections all designed to fulfil consumers' needs in the early stages of researching interiors and aid their paint and colour choice.

Get Ideas: The new site features hundreds of photos from the Crown style library and recommends, colour schemes inspired by the images.

Colour and finishes: This section features Crown's entire colour palette and product portfolio and aids selection with an intelligent search function that suggests schemes to go with chosen colours.

Schemes: The 3D visualisation tool sits at the core of the site to aid colour scheme selection.

Help and Advice: This element contains movies, fact sheets and downloads giving decoration tips and DIY advice.

My Ideas: This personalised section sits permanently at the right hand side of all web pages so users can see all items and views they've saved.

At any given time in the consumer's journey around the site, they can order a Crown Pure Paint Samples, an innovative service that provides a swatch of the actual paint rather than a printed colour match.

Up to five samples can be ordered for free through the site and are delivered to the home.

Debbie Lynch, Crown Brand Manager, said: "We were missing out on time spent online by 70 per cent of consumers thinking about redecorating who use the web to research trends, colour schemes and for photographic inspiration.

"So we've made our site relevant to how people use the web in the paint buying journey, critically at the customer acquisition stage, and fulfilled their needs when researching - allowing them to get ideas, play around with colour and get fast-track solutions.

"The features and functionality that the site now offers will enable us to interact and open a dialogue with consumers earlier on in the journey.

"By providing motivation, inspiration, colour scheme prompts and decorating advice we're aiding paint selection and providing a service that internet users want and are already using the web for.

"What also sets us apart is that once consumers have found the look they want to achieve they don't have to go anywhere else to reference the paint colour or type - all they have to do is pop in store and purchase it.

"The result of extensive research into DIYers' web usage and needs, Code has delivered exactly the solution we need to help crownpaint.co.uk become the chosen destination for consumers looking for decorating advice, colour and colour inspiration.".
