Independent hotel sector reinvests for future
Britain's independent hotels are taking advantage of a buoyant market to invest in their infrastructure and are now competing with chain hotels on a level field, says Classic British chief.
These properties, in addition to current Classic member hotels, the four-star Marmadukes Hotel and luxury self-catering apartments at Lendal Tower, make up some of the best-located hotels in York.
Classic British Hotels CEO Len Louis explained why his portfolio is expanding: "We only accept hotels across a tightly defined quality band; we also operate as a very cohesive group and provide centralised solutions to fragmented issues, such as technology, so when we are dealing with TMCs and HBAs we are in a position to deliver the same sort of central purchasing power that a group would provide in negotiations.
"Our members are all exclusive to our organisation, they can't belong to any others and we speak on their behalf".
Nigel Downes, Managing Director of Sketchley Grange Hotel, explained why he decided to switch from Best Western to Classic British Hotels: "Sketchley Grange is proud to be an independent hotel; one of our unique selling points is the individuality of our property and the high level of service we provide.
"Being a member of Classic British Hotels means we are part of a desirable collection of top independent hotels throughout the UK and enables us to maintain our own individuality.
"We have a great deal of development planned for Sketchley Grange over the next couple of years including the addition of 42 new bedrooms.
"As a member of Classic British Hotels, and with the support they provide, we believe we have made the right choice in deciding to join Classic British Hotels from Best Western to take our business to the next level and get the best out of our new plans".
Many more hotels are earmarked to join Classic British Hotels over the coming months.
