As a result of the management buyout of Virgin Megastores, the newly formed Zavvi Entertainment Group has appointed leading brand design agency Caulder Moore to rename and rebrand the company.

The new identity will be implemented by mid-November.

The agency was appointed to the task following a highly competitive pitch.

Commenting on the appointment, Cathy Kebbeh, Head of Brand and Advertising at Zavvi, said: "Caulder Moore bowled us over with their intuitive understanding of the brief and our needs for this major project.

"Their extensive experience of the commercial realities of rebranding large, national retailers will be vital in helping us to communicate the new brand's authority as the leading independent entertainment specialist".

Colum Lowe, Managing Director at Caulder Moore, said: "We're really excited about this opportunity as it's not everyday you get appointed to assist one of Britain's top retailers in the development of their brand, the results of which will be highly visible to all on every major high street in the UK".

With a total estate of 125 stores, Virgin Megastores has been a key player in the music, DVD and games sector since 1977, enjoying a high profile on the UK high street.

The agency's brief is to develop an exciting, fresh new name and identity that reflects the pride and passion of the company and its status as a large, specialist independent entertainment store; creating enthusiasm to shop on the high street and across all other customer channels.

Ian Caulder, Creative Director, at Caulder Moore, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to be asked to work on what really would be a dream project for any designer in the challenging and fast-moving retail entertainment sector".
