Cambrian Printers go FSC
Cambrian Printers has introduced FSC certified paper as its standard stock sheet as part of its commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
Cambrian Printers gained FSC certification last year It has now gone one step further and, in an innovative move by the company, will now print all standard work on FSC certified paper
Usually commanding a premium and only used when specified by the customer, paper certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) is considered the environmentally sound choice for printing.
The move by Cambrian therefore demonstrates a firm commitment to minimising its own and clients' environmental impact.
"We're keen to ensure that our commitment to the environment goes beyond our activities and that our clients are able to make considerable environmental gains without additional cost", commented Robert Read, Chairman and Managing Director.
"We believe we're the first UK printing company to offer FSC certified paper as our house sheet at no additional cost to our customer".
Cambrian Printers received FSC and PEFC certification in July 2006, the certification enables the company to offer chain of custody for FSC certified paper - ensuring that the paper used comes from verifiably sustainable managed forests and reputable pulp producers and paper mills.
In addition to making economic and environmental sense, Cambrian views this as an important step taken on behalf on customers.
"With the ever increasing emphasis on green issues, more and more of our customers are under pressure from their own subscribers and end-users and have been asking us what they can do", explained Martin Koffer, Commercial Manager.
"When we reviewed our paper supply contract we made this a key consideration - the new contract put in place means that by printing with us our customers will be able to give their own customers the assurance of an FSC product, and use the FSC logo on their publications" "Not all customers can afford to pay the premiums involved in some of the other products available, so this deal is a good balance between sustainability and cost".
Cambrian Printers has been able to offer this service having negotiated a deal with its paper suppliers, Howard Smith Paper Group.

In addition to FSC and PEFC certification, Cambrian Printers also holds ISO14001 and Green Dragon Level 5 status - confirming its position among the leading UK environmental printers.
This autumn the company is also short listed for several awards including Arena Network Climate Change Champions Award, Green Apple Environmental Awards, Print Week Environmental Champion, National Recycling Awards and BPIF Book and Design Awards.
