Printer achieves double environmental hatrick

A Blackmore product story

Blackmore, a specialist marketing printer, has reached the finals of three environmental awards as well as gaining three environmental certifications.

Blackmore is one of three finalists for Dorset Business Awards' 'Environmental Excellence' category, with the final results to be announced at a gala dinner on Thursday 29 November at the Bournemouth International Centre.

It was also recently announced as winners for the South West Region of the British Chambers of Commerce Green Award, with results also to be revealed on 29 November at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

In addition, Blackmore was highly commended in the national Environmental and Sustainable Technology Journal's 'Environmental and Sustainable Management Award', competing against companies such as Tesco Stores and BT group.

Dorset Business Awards' 'Environmental Excellence' category is sponsored by BP and entrants were asked to show evidence of a commitment to sound environmental good practice and a defined environmental policy.

Blackmore has been continually making efforts to reduce its impact through changes in the factory and suppliers; this included investing in a more environmentally friendly press; changing workers' shift patterns to accommodate car sharing; and making major changes to its waste and recycling as well as using vegetable-based inks and environmentally friendlier paper.

On top of this, as part of its ongoing commitment to greener printing practices, Blackmore has recently achieved an environmental certifications hatrick through receiving the dual PEFC and FSC certification plus the ISO 14001 Environmental standard that confirms it fulfills the strict criteria set by these organisations.

Aubrey Aviss, Blackmore 's Sales Director, said: "We have been working extremely hard to be at the forefront of environmentally friendly print, which has been confirmed by the double hatrick".

He added: "It doesn't stop here as we are constantly working on future plans to ensure our impacts to the environment are minimal".
