Marketing specialist printer gets 'green' light

A Blackmore product story
Edited by the Marketingservicestalk editorial team Aug 9, 2007

Blackmore, a marketing specialist printer, is officially one of the leading green printers in the country, having been awarded FSC and PEFC accreditation.

Blackmore has just been awarded the two major certifications, FSC and PEFC, which have only been granted to 70 other printers in the UK to date, which demonstrate their commitment to greener printing practices.

The two environmental certifications are the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Demand for companies to gain these certifications has grown tremendously in the last few years and they confirm Blackmore fulfills the strict criteria set aside by these organisations; ensuring paper has come from a forest which is well managed according to environmental, social and economical standards.

As one of only 70 printers that adhere to both environmental policies, Blackmore is one of only a few in its market to offer FSC and PEFC stocks and full audit trail.

The FSC certification, which can be printed on products specified on certified materials, confirms that the paper has been tracked from the forest through to the end product, known as the chain of custody.

It has become the most recognisable sustainable forestry logo with consumers due to its backing by environmental organisations including Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and WWF and used by many major companies.

The PEFC award certifies timber and paper products come from responsibly managed forests.

These certifications, coupled with the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard awarded last year, have been gained after many years of hard work by Blackmore.

They have constantly improved their practices and upgraded equipment to ensure they are providing superb print to their clients whilst keeping environmental concerns at the forefront of their business.

The company has a dedicated team member assigned to ensure they comply with all aspects of the standard and use the certifications appropriately.

Blackmore's sales director Aubrey Aviss stated: "It's fantastic to be recognised with these certifications and it confirms our status as one of the leading green printers in the UK.

"It's really exciting for our clients to be able to feature the FSC and PEFC logos on their print jobs as they can prove their commitment to responsible manufacturing to their end customer.

"We are one of the few print companies to be able to provide and advise on this service".

Blackmore , soon to celebrate its centenary, is a large independent printer specialising in cold set web and promotional print and is part of the TH Brickell group of companies, which has a combined turnover of GBP12 million and employs over 110 staff.

Blackmore provides print solutions to marketing agencies around the UK.
