Bartering to stimulate business in Bournemouth

A Bartercard product story
Edited by the Marketingservicestalk editorial team Sep 13, 2007

The ancient art of bartering is set to continue in Bournemouth following a sponsorship agreement between Bartercard, the world's largest trade exchange, and football club AFC Bournemouth.

The two-year, six-figure deal, which sees Bartercard take naming rights to the club's East Stand, will enable AFC Bournemouth to gain an additional revenue stream to spend among local small and medium sized enterprises by inviting them to become part of a preferred supplier network.

By becoming involved in the network and agreeing to accept payment in Trade Pounds (TGBP), Bartercard's unique currency, local businesses will be able to gain easier access to contracts that ordinarily may be won by larger or out of town competitors.

The partnership will also benefit the wider regional economy as a whole.

"We are really proud to be working with such a progressive organisation", commented John Attridge, National Projects Manager and Dorset Broker for Bartercard.

"These really are exciting times for AFC Bournemouth following a financial boost from the recent privatisation, and we saw this as a great opportunity to get involved.

"The club has been a long-standing trader with Bartercard and has first hand experience of the benefits the system has to offer.

"For challenges commonly faced by small to medium sized organisations like AFC Bournemouth, bartering offers an ideal solution; by exchanging goods in Trade Pounds, Bartercard enables companies to conserve cash in their bank accounts whilst using up spare capacity in other areas.

"We anticipate that the agreement will give businesses of all types in Bournemouth and the surrounding areas access to a wealth of previously unexplored opportunity," added Attridge.

Bartercard is the modern way for business owners to trade spare capacity, goods or services in return for those that other businesses offer.

Unlike traditional bartering, however, the system does not rely on direct swaps but on a system of credit and debits, which gives people the freedom to trade while also allowing them to buy things that are genuinely useful to them.

Transactions are made using Trade Pounds (TGBP), which have the same pound for pound value as sterling, removing any parity over prices.

As the world's largest business trade exchange, Bartercard has proven an essential business tool, enabling thousands of businesses to increase sales, reduce cash expenses and improve profit.

Founded in Australia in 1991, Bartercard has an established formula of success as a business model in 13 countries, with 130 offices and over 70,000 businesses turning over last year global trade volume of more than A$1.2 billion.
